The Las Vegas Raiders suffered their seventh straight loss on Sunday, falling to the Denver Broncos in a tough divisional matchup. Despite being a winnable game, the Raiders couldn’t deliver offensively in the second half, leading to their 2-9 record, tied for the worst in the NFL.

Young talent was on display in Week 12, and while the Raiders’ defense held its ground for most of the game, they ultimately ran out of steam. The defense did its part by creating opportunities for the offense, but those chances were squandered with a costly interception and missed throws. The Raiders’ offensive struggles continued to be their Achilles’ heel, despite some promising performances from individual players.

The team’s injury woes only deepened during the game. Starting quarterback Gardner Minshew II left the field with a broken collarbone, an injury that’s expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season. This setback leaves the Raiders searching for stability in an already challenging season.

Hondo Carpenter, a Raiders analyst, shared his insights on the team’s struggles during a recent episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast.

“The Raiders are in a hunt for a franchise quarterback,” Carpenter explained. “That’s the main takeaway from this game. I thought Patrick Graham’s defense performed admirably, but they ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. The offense put them in a tough position to succeed. Despite the injuries, rookie Decamerion Richardson showed potential in his first start, which was a bright spot.”

Carpenter went on to defend the offensive coaching, saying, “The play-calling wasn’t the issue today. The points scored may not reflect that, but the real problem lay in execution errors made by the players. Mistakes on the field cost the team opportunities to capitalize.”

He also emphasized the larger issue looming over the Raiders’ season: the lack of a franchise quarterback. “Mark Davis, Tom Brady, and others in leadership are reviewing the team’s performance closely. The reality is, no matter how much talent you have on the roster, without a solid quarterback, you can’t win in the NFL.”

The Raiders’ challenges this season are emblematic of the broader struggles facing teams in the league: balancing young potential with consistent performance, and coping with the inevitable setbacks caused by injuries. The search for a franchise quarterback is likely to be the central focus of the Raiders’ future strategy as they rebuild for a more competitive season.
